Development Projects

We advise clients on all stages of development projects: getting sites allocated in the development plan; advising on the chances of obtaining planning permission for a particular use; advising on contracts conditional on obtaining planning permission; submitting planning applications and associated documentation; negotiating planning conditions and planning agreements, highways agreements and sewers agreements. We understand that the planning process is a complex mix of law, policy and politics.

These are some recent examples of our experience in this area:

We have assisted an international hotel operator in taking a lease of a hotel in central London advising on obtaining a certificate of lawful use for the premises together with planning permission and listed building consent for the refurbishment works.

We negotiated a section 106 agreement to enable our client to obtain planning permission for a 24 acre mixed use scheme comprising offices, light industry, warehousing and leisure uses. The green travel plan was a key issue on this site balancing the Council’s need to control the number of single car journeys to the site against the developer’s need to maintain maximum flexibility for potential occupiers of the site.

We acted for a national petroleum company negotiating and drafting highways agreements for various petrol station sites around the UK which it was in the process of upgrading.

We advised a developer in connection with his mixed office and residential use scheme which involved three tower blocks on the South Coast. We negotiated and drafted a section 106 agreement, including an affordable housing nominations agreement, and a highways agreement for the project.
