Energy

We have extensive experience of a range of different energy projects.

We have advised various utility companies on the planning and compulsory purchase issues involved in both laying new gas pipelines and diverting existing ones in order to expand and strengthen their distribution networks.

As security of supply becomes a key issue for UK energy needs, underground gas storage facilities are proving an increasingly popular option. We assisted a utility company in obtaining planning permission for an underground gas storage facility which included negotiating the s106 agreement, highways agreement and various dedication agreements together with advising on appropriate planning conditions.

We have helped numerous developers to obtain consent for on shore wind farms around the UK. This has involved submitting planning applications, reviewing environmental statements, negotiating planning agreements and advising at the appeal stage.

With the first National Policy Statement for nuclear power well underway it is inevitable that we will see an increased amount of nuclear power generation in the UK in the future. Many existing power stations meanwhile are reaching the end of their natural life. We have advised on environmental liability on decommissioning of nuclear power stations.
